7.1.4. Spacetime

Each new EC reading has a manifest temporal course and concludes with a new SEPARATION in KNOWING. The establishment provides a new structural “tick”. Through further organisation and understanding, earlier establishments are incorporated into progressively higher MEANINGS.

The emergence tree is thus also a time tree. Like an ordinary tree, it has its oldest parts at the root and its later growth further out. The difference is that the time tree does not grow within an external time. It encompasses the very order of establishment from which manifest time arises.

Nothing established is erased. New SEPARATIONS and new organisations do not undo earlier establishments. The history of THE SOURCE persists through the preserved SEPARATIONS and their relational connections. Later MEANINGS incorporate what came before without removing it.

The simultaneity of KNOWING therefore does not mean that all events lack order. What is manifestly experienced as before and after exists in KNOWING as definite relationships between establishments. History is preserved as structure, even though no global flow of time passes through it.

When a particular part of this landscape becomes current from a local perspective, a particular historical context is therefore also brought into actuality. The perspective has relations not only to what can be described as other places, but also to earlier and later establishments.

FOCUS does not move physically into the tree. It remains fixed at THE HORIZON. To “enter” a part of the time tree here means that this part becomes current for experience from a particular perspective.

This provides an ontological foundation for investigating time travel and communication across different times. If history persists in KNOWING, the past is not an erased region. But preservation and access are different matters. How an earlier context can become current for experience, and what communication between such perspectives entails, must be explained through the mechanism.

In The Mechanism, this possibility is also connected to dissociation. A dissociated ego understands itself as something particular, in a particular place and at a particular time. An experience that transcends this confinement presupposes that the local identity perspective no longer delimits the entire available view. This will be examined more closely later.

The abstract foundation must also be distinguished from manifest spacetime. In the account adopted here, the geometry of THE SOURCE is two-dimensional. The order of establishment additionally provides a temporal structure. MEANINGS understand the organisation of this foundation; they are not themselves geometric figures.

These two geometric dimensions and the preserved order of establishment do not already constitute a physical space with a clock. Manifest spacetime arises through EC reading.

It is THE INTERSPACES — the as yet unresolved relations in the landscape — that give rise to impulses and reading. Their manifest appearance constitutes the landscape’s “shadows”. During reading, the complete PANORAMIC GAZE brings forth local three-dimensional space, while the successive reading of THE FOCAL GAZE brings forth local time.

Spacetime is thus the coherent experience of spatial orientation and temporal course. Its foundation is the geometry, history of establishment and current INTERSPACES of KNOWING. Its manifest character is experience — qualia through the Experience Circle.
